Martha Sigler Guthrie a well-known Louisiana watercolorist has been painting since her early childhood. She has been a professional artist for more than thirty-five years. During this time, she has served as juror and judge for a number of art organizations, both in the New Orleans area and elsewhere. She has given numerous demonstrations and workshops on painting watercolor still life.

Born in Missouri, Ms Guthrie grew up in Memphis, TN, where she attended Rhodes College and the Memphis Academy of Art. After coming to Louisiana with her family in 1966, she studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Since moving to New Orleans, she has continued her studies at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. She also counts the special studies with a number of the country's leading watercolorists as a major part of her training.

During her career she has participated in many juried and one-person exhibits. A few of her recent acceptances into national juried shows and awards are:

Martha was a featured artist in the Fall 2002 edition of WATERCOLOR magazine. Other publications include cover art for GULF COAST magazine as well as COUNTRY ROADS magazine, and cover art and inside art for THE COOKIN' CAJUN COOKING SCHOOL COOKBOOK.

Her works appear in the permanent collections of:

  • The Ochsner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans, LA
  • The New Orleans World Trade Center
  • The New Orleans Academy of Fine Art

Martha currently teaches Intermediate and Advanced Watercolor Still Life at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art.

She now offers watercolor still life workshops for local and regional groups, as well as weekly classes in her studio.
